Presbyterian is seeking a Surgical Tech II for the Operating Room to p rovide assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe, effective and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety.

- HS Diploma or GED plus short-term training in operating room setting or graduate of surgical technician certification from an accredited school or training program required.
- Current BLS required.
- Familiarity with all surgical instruments and equipment. Working knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in a hospital operating room or outpatient operating room setting.
- Certification Required **or minimum of 5+ years of experience and skillset to perform all specialties
Credentials Essential:
- Certified Surgical Technician
- Tech in Surgery-Certified
- Demonstrates knowledge of advanced surgical techniques.
- Applies knowledge related to emergency situations.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating the needs of the patient and the surgeon.
- Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments during the procedure.
- Secures and prepares all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures.
- Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the OR.
- Prepares patient skin for surgical treatment.
- Position and re-position patient during surgery.
- Helps monitor patients during surgery.
- Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase.
- Performs scrub functions.
- Ensures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source.
- Maintains current knowledge of anatomy/physiology and medications used intraoperatively.
Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops and publications. Follows all federal, state and departmental safety procedures.
Skills:
- In addition to basic surgical procedures, demonstrates advanced knowledge and practice in broader scope of surgical procedures: ENT, Plastics, Eyes, Complex Breast, and ortho/spine.
- For Family Birthing Center (FBC) this includes advanced knowledge and practice in all obstetrical procedures: cesarean section, cesarean section with tubal ligation, cesarean section with hysterectomy, laceration repair, dilatation and curettage, and emergency cerclage placement.
