The Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace-related safety programs for both fleet and facilities management. This role is responsible for safety across the organization, as well as helping to ensure that the organization is aware of and compliant with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations. The Safety Specialist conducts regular inspections, provides employee training, investigates incidents, and collaborates with departments to address safety concerns and improve workplace practices.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Program Development & Compliance
Develop, implement, and update safety policies, procedures, systems and training programs in alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.
Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA, state, and local safety regulations.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, reports, and documentation.
Inspections, Audits & Hazard Control
Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions. Evaluate facilities and fleet related equipment, work processes, and materials to ensure compliance with safety standards. Monitor and enforce the proper use of all safety related equipment, systems, and personal protective equipment (PPE) where necessary. Incident Response & Investigation
Respond to workplace emergencies and coordinate appropriate follow-up actions. Assist with the investigation of workplace and vehicle accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend prevention safety-related strategies. Prepare and present safety reports to management, including findings, trends, and recommendations. Training & Employee Engagement
Provide workplace-related and driver safety training, education, and resources to employees Create and lead a Safety Committee for the organization. Promote a culture of safety by engaging employees in hazard reporting, safety awareness, and risk prevention efforts. Emergency Preparedness
Assist in developing, implementing, and updating emergency response and business continuity plans. Coordinate with internal teams and external agencies during emergency situations Qualifications
Education, Certifications & Experience Requirements Bachelors or Associates degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. 2 3 years prior experience in a safety-related role, such as implementing and managing fleet and facilities safety programs, conducting inspections, audits, and hazard evaluations in diverse environments, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Relevant safety certifications preferred. (CSP, OSHA training or equivalent safety certifications). Valid Georgia drivers license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
