The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist, Building/Facility/Construction, Journey 1, for the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC), located in Seward, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing
Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings.
Carpentry/Woodworking: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct, install, finish, or repair wooden objects or structures.
Industrial Equipment Operation: Knowledge of principles and methods for operating industrial equipment.
Painting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools to apply paint and other protective coating materials on drywall, wood, metal, glass, and other surfaces.

As the State of Alaska's only maximum security adult male facility we provide confinement for minimum, medium, and close custody sentenced felons including the state's most violent and predatory offenders.

The Working Environment You Can Expect Spring Creek Correctional Center is a maximum security state operated adult correctional institution. The institution has a capacity of over 500 male inmates and employs approximately 200 staff.

Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance
Safety Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to identify, control, mitigate, and eliminate safety hazards in the design and use of facilities, equipment, operations, and work processes.

The community of Seward is nestled against a backdrop of peaks and passes sculpted by Ice Age glaciers; Seward’s ice-free harbor has long served as a natural gateway to the vast scenic and resource riches of Alaska’s huge interior.
Residents enjoy outstanding outdoor recreation including the Kenai Fjords National Park, dominated by glaciated landscapes. Exit Glacier is one of the many glaciers in the park and is only a short drive from downtown Seward.
Seward is located on Resurrection Bay, a fickle body of water teeming with an abundant species of fish and frolicking marine mammals.
Seward is home to the Mt. Marathon Race which is run every July 4th. The race totals 3.1 miles and climbs 3022 feet. Top finishers cross the finish line in about an hour.
Seward schools are notable, with local schools receiving recognition in the past.
The region offers marine boating, fishing and hunting, cross-country skiing, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, running and biking, and more.
