Description

This full-time faculty position requires the ability to teach courses in the PK-3 Credential Program (specializing in Early Childhood Education, Early Literacy, Early Math), as well as foundational courses for all teacher credential candidates. Teaching can include co-teaching, online, face-to-face, and hybrid formats. Responsibilities also include clinical supervision of teacher education candidates. The ECE Program Director has responsibilities spanning program leadership, administration, teaching, and event planning. They oversee program development, maintenance, and accreditation, as well as admissions, recruitment, and faculty management. The director also provides student support and advising, coordinates student placements, and represents the university in various capacities. In addition to teaching, the director plans and implements student orientations and residencies.

Specialization

Multiple Subject Credential with specialization in Early Childhood Education, Early Literacy, Early Math, with preference for candidates who have additional credentials (administrative, early childhood education, and/or special education).

Program Director Responsibilities

The Director of the ECE Program will provide leadership in collaboration with the Chair and Program Directors in the Division of Teacher Education; develop and implement PK-3 curriculum; review admission files and make admission decisions; participate in student recruitment activities; plan and implement new student orientations and residencies; provide support and advising to teacher candidates; recruit and mentor qualified adjuncts; contribute to state and accreditation reports.

Faculty Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate level educational foundations, methodology, pedagogy, and specialization courses with expertise in Early Childhood Education, Early Literacy, Early Math. Clinical supervision of student teachers. Support faith integration across the curriculum. Engage in ongoing research and/or a clinical practice agenda. Stay current with California adopted P-12 content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems. Participate in service to the University through committees and to the broader professional community. Maintain ongoing connections with professional education organizations (e.g., CCTE). May be required to work at alternative regional campuses or sites.

Level

Open rank, dependent upon prior experience.

Qualifications

A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University; faculty members sign a “Statement of Faith” and adhere to the Faculty Handbook. Minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood Education coursework. Multiple Subject or Early Childhood Education teaching credential from any US state. PhD or EdD in education or a related field; a practitioner with 15+ years PK-12 experience without a doctorate can be considered. Successful experience using online technologies for student assessment and teaching; preference for online or hybrid experience. Commitment to effective professional practices in teaching, learning, scholarly activity, and service (e.g., grants, publications, conference presentations, committee service). Proven ability to serve linguistically and ethnically diverse populations. Demonstrated collegial teamwork. Willingness to travel to regional center campuses. Current knowledge of ECE content, California P-12 standards, diversity, and accountability systems.

Experience

Public school teaching experience in cross-cultural settings. Experience mentoring/supervising candidates in multicultural settings. Graduate-level teaching experience in online or blended environments is preferred.

Workload

29 units, 11-month contract.

Compensation

$68,640 to $125,460 annual salary; actual compensation varies based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. APU also offers a competitive benefits package. Compensation will be based on experience, rank, and qualifications.
