Laboratory Technician
This position performs waived and non-waived tests as defined by CLIA '88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to department supervisor. May be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory. Core functions include performing testing in an accurate and timely manner according to established policies and performance standards, recognizing and ensuring validity of abnormal patient and/or QC results, ensuring the appropriate use of supplies and materials, self-directed and motivated to contribute to projects identified by the supervisor, communicating courteously, professionally, effectively and accurately with internal and external customers, and processing and preparing patient samples as required. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include personal maturity and responsibility, excellent reading, writing, and math abilities, ability to perform detailed work, work with frequent interruptions, multi-task, problem solve and memorization, ability to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly, detail oriented and exceptional organizational skills, and basic computer skills. Minimum qualifications include meeting one of the following criteria: an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, a bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science, equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation, or meeting other criteria defined in the CLIA regulation. Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation and translated diploma. Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy is preferred.
