Overview
Brief Summary of Job Duties: Under the direction of the Business Systems Analyst Manager 2, the Financial & Technology Systems Analyst (Analyst) serves as a technical leader and subject matter expert for the campus cashiering system (CashNet), the student receivable system (BARC), departmental receivables within Oracle Financial Cloud (OFC) and the BFS website. The Analyst applies advanced business process, systems analysis, and solution design expertise to support system operations, collaborate with functional leads on improvements and required changes, and work closely with technical resources to identify and resolve issues, enhance automation, and ensure effective integration and performance of these systems. The Analyst contributes to technical change initiatives, supports testing and implementation, and helps maintain compliance with applicable policies and standards. As the designated Webmaster for the BFS website, the Analyst serves as the primary contact for all aspects of the site, including site design, content management, and development of customized, data-driven solutions. The Analyst maintains knowledge of best practices in web development and accessibility standards to ensure the BFS site remains accurate, functional, secure, and user-friendly. As a member of the BFS Systems Support Services team, the Analyst provides high-level user support, develops and delivers training, and mentors other staff. This role requires the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to initiatives that support UCSB's financial systems strategy and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
20% Analysis and Process Improvement - Supports BFS operations by evaluating financial systems and processes, identifying opportunities for integration, automation, and long-term improvements. Collaborates with functional leads and technical resources to analyze performance, troubleshoot system issues, and ensure enhancements align with campus business needs and compliance requirements. Includes coordinating requirements gathering, documenting and maintaining process standards, facilitating testing and change management for new releases or upgrades, developing unit integration and acceptance testing plans, and leading cross-functional teams to address complex issues. Performs highly complex analysis of business and user needs, translating them into precise system and workflow specifications, and applies advanced techniques to resolve issues with broad organization-wide impact. Provides advanced support and training on new applications and interacts with senior managers to influence strategies for campus-wide projects.
30% BFS Website Lead - Serves as the designated Webmaster for the BFS website, overseeing site design, content management, and technical functionality. Leads web development initiatives, including upgrades, redesigns, and the creation of custom, data-driven tools that support BFS operations and integrate with financial systems. Monitors analytics and user feedback while maintaining expertise in web development practices, accessibility requirements, and campus branding standards.
25% Receivables Systems Lead - Serves as the campus subject matter expert for receivables systems (BARC and OFC). Collaborates with functional leads to review and implement system improvements, ensure compliance, and address operations related to billing, collections, account adjustments, and financial aid disbursement. Supports staff training and participates in system-wide receivables initiatives and integrations.
25% Cashiering Systems Lead - Serves as the campus subject matter expert for the CashNet cashiering system. Reviews operations, identifies changes or enhancements, supports troubleshooting, and participates in system-wide CashNet initiatives. Assists with training, implementations, upgrades, and maintains alignment with institutional needs and industry standards. Serves as primary campus contact with vendor for procuring statements of work and collaborates with senior managers on financial projects with campus-wide impact.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
4-6 years experience in advanced business systems analysis (requirements gathering, documentation, and translation into technical specifications).
4-6 years demonstrated ability to lead system testing, integration validation, and acceptance of complex financial or business systems.
4-6 years experience initiating and implementing process improvements that increase efficiency, compliance, or automation.
4-6 years experience with the integration of complex, diverse, internally and externally developed implementations of business functions to build scalable systems.
4-6 years experience leading projects and collaborating across distributed teams and with vendors/internal service providers.
4-6 years experience with coordination and communication with vendors and internal/external service providers.
4-6 years working programming knowledge using web development technologies or languages such as HTML.
4-6 years experience in an analytical role within the banking professional services industry, with experience in cash and billing operations.
Preferred Qualifications
1-3 years experience working with higher education or public sector financial systems.
