Overview The City of Tamarac is seeking experienced candidates for a Network Administrator I position.

Qualifications (minimum) Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; supplemented by two or more years of progressively responsible experience in network administration, configuration, and support. Professional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or Microsoft certifications highly desired.

Job Summary The Network Administrator I performs routine professional and technical activities pertaining to maintaining uninterrupted network functions and operations in a LAN/WAN and Microsoft environment. Work involves routine support, troubleshooting, and resolving issues with operating systems, application software, PC systems, telecommunications, and hardware and software. Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment based on professional education and previous experience. Reports to the Network Infrastructure Manager.

Essential Functions

Supports the City’s networking and computer goals; maintains and installs IT services and equipment including but not limited to, network, telecommunications, server, and storage infrastructure, and PCs, printers, and peripherals.

Assists with network infrastructure setup and configuration activities, including Cisco Systems switches and routers, and Palo Alto Networks firewalls; monitors wireless network equipment setup and configuration.

Assists with telecommunications infrastructure setup and configuration, including user management.

Assists server infrastructure, including physical servers/ESXi hosts and a VMware virtual environment; assists in setup, configuration, and operation of servers.

Assists with Active Directory infrastructure, including creation, deletion, and modification of user accounts and groups, sites, links, and permissions.

Monitors storage infrastructure (central Storage Area Network).

Monitors, completes, and closes service requests in the IT Service Desk.

Creates new user accounts and provides access; maintains and updates servers; troubleshoots network outages (e.g., switch, Wi‑Fi, fiber, printers).

Troubleshoots, identifies, and resolves problems; escalates complex issues as needed.

Assists with ensuring new projects have proper network equipment for current and future needs.

Assists with installation and support of user workstations, networking systems, and other equipment, including system software and hardware configurations.

Assists users with routine Central Square Technologies enterprise and application software issues, and IBM iSeries job processing issues, re-routing jobs, or troubleshooting user problems.

Creates new network and computer system access; assigns security groups and applies additional application security as needed for Central Square Technologies applications.

Deletes terminated employee computer systems access including user accounts and application access.

Adheres to city and public health and safety guidelines; performs duties safely and reports hazards.

Maintains effective communication with city personnel, external organizations, and the public to project a positive city image.

Demonstrates behaviors that support the City’s Vision and Values.

Maintains on-call availability as assigned to respond to emergencies and keep city operations functional.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with diverse individuals.

Supervisory & Pay Information This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This is an exempt position paid by salary, bi-weekly, and is excluded from certain bargaining agreements.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of and ability to learn Cisco Systems networking and telecommunications hardware and software.

Knowledge of Palo Alto Networks hardware and software.

Knowledge of VMware virtualization technologies.

Knowledge of cybersecurity technologies.

Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.

Knowledge of Storage Area Networks.

Microsoft Technology Certification in Windows – last 2 generations

Microsoft Technology Certification in Windows Server – last 2 generations

Security+ Certification

Certifications & Licenses Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city-owned vehicle. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training is required within six (6) months of employment. Certifications include Network+ and A+.
