Responsibilities

Indoor plant cultivation at Oxford Tract: maintain an inventory of ~6,500 plants, monitor growth stages and replace plants as needed.

Diagnose pests and recommend treatment methods; assess plant growth issues and devise solutions.

Organize repotting and pruning activities for all plants; perform hands‑on pruning when required.

Supervise sampling for biomass and saponin content; conduct on‑site sampling when necessary.

Facilitate experiments with university teams to gather data on plant growth.

Establish plants in field sites: Gillman Tract (plan and execute 500 plant transfers), UC Davis (coordinate 1,000–1,500 plant installations).

Set up and manage a 40‑ft vertical farming unit and a 40‑ft hydroponic container system; oversee unit operations.

Supervise student assistants, coordinate student activities for repotting, pruning, watering, nutrient and pesticide applications, and modeling of vertical farming.

Sample and analyze saponin content of plants using RP‑HPLC; conduct statistical analysis of results.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Experience in research and horticulture, greenhouse production management, and controlled environment agriculture.

Proficiency in indoor plant production using LED lighting.

Propagation of woody plants from seed or clonal sources.

Soilless culture and nutrient solution design and recirculation.

Knowledge of fertilization and plant nutrient management and ability to calculate fertigation strategies.

Integrated pest management skills, including diagnosis of pests and diseases.

Experience in horticultural research to maximize biomass accumulation.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in a related field.

Salary & Benefits Annual salary range: $63,257.82 – $101,760.49. This is a 100% FTE career position, exempt under FLSA, and includes full benefits.
