Salary:

Depends on experience, Class I Step 1 $64,099.13 to Class III Step 13 $107,762.82. Annual stipends for Master’s and Doctorate degrees.

Purpose of Position To provide standards‑based instruction in physical education.

Essential Functions

Engage and support students in team sports and individual activities.

Explain safe and correct ways to engage in physical fitness.

Construct age‑appropriate lesson plans while adhering to state requirements.

Analyze student assessments to develop instructional materials, including individualized and small group instruction as necessary.

Establish and maintain high expectations for all students.

Create and maintain effective learning environments for all students.

Use a variety of research‑based teaching strategies to advance student learning.

Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress.

Promote positive interpersonal relationships among peers, staff, students, parents/guardians, and the public.

Participate as a team member in Professional Learning Communities and IEPs.

Differentiated instruction within the universal curriculum.

Provide appropriate instructional interventions within the learning environment.

Support the Restorative Approach philosophy when working with students.

Engage in ongoing, collaborative professional learning.

Provide learning experiences where students analyze complex primary sources in detail.

Maintain student records as part of evaluating student social growth.

Non‑essential Functions

Provide supervision of para‑educators, as appropriate.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Work at desk, conference table, or in meetings.

Stand and circulate for extended periods.

Read and observe printed materials.

Understand normal speech and communicate clearly.

Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Moderate to high stress levels.

Primarily in school environment.

Climate typically normal; occasional adverse weather.

Daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff.

Regular contact with parents, community members, and outside agency personnel.

Abilities And Knowledge

Establish rapport and work constructively with staff, students, parents, and community members.

Required Qualifications

Previous high school coaching experience; experience as a coordinator or head coach at the high school level preferred.

Highly motivated, well organized, able to communicate effectively, with deep knowledge of technical aspects of football.

Valid California Credential with authorization to teach Physical Education and a Bilingual Cross Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD or BCLAD) credential, English Learner authorization or equivalent.

Preference for those who can teach in more than one academic area, have prior varsity coaching experience, and are willing to work collaboratively with other subject areas.

Desired Qualifications

Bilingual in English & Spanish.
