Job Summary The Logistics Planning Engineer plays a critical role in optimizing material flow and warehouse operations at the Denison facility. This position is responsible for designing and implementing efficient logistics systems that support new part integration, inventory planning, and future-state automation strategies. The ideal candidate will combine analytical skills with hands‑on experience in SAP, Power BI, warehouse layout, material replenishment strategies, and systematic inventory control.
What You Will Do
Design and implement warehouse layouts and bin structures to support the integration of new parts into the facility, ensuring efficient space utilization and material flow.
Configure and maintain MRP planning parameters aligned with current business requirements to optimize inventory levels and material availability.
Develop and manage a Plan for Every Part (PFEP) that outlines warehousing strategies, replenishment methods, and handling procedures for each item.
Establish systematic and physical First‑In, First‑Out (FIFO) processes to ensure inventory accuracy and minimize aging or obsolescence.
Create a future‑state warehousing strategy that incorporates automation technologies to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
Education Requirement
Candidates should possess a relevant degree or demonstrate equivalent knowledge through professional expertise.
What Skills You Will Have Business Process Improvement Knowledge of business process improvement best practices and ability to use methods for identifying, evaluating, introducing, and implementing more efficient approaches to performing supply‑chain related activities. Ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Power BI.
Analytical Thinking Apply advanced analytics tools such as Power BI, SAP, and Excel modeling to evaluate supply‑chain performance metrics. Identify root causes of inventory imbalances and production delays, and develop actionable solutions that improve forecast accuracy and reduce excess stock across facilities.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking Use structured decision‑making frameworks to optimize material flow and supplier performance. Participate in cross‑functional planning sessions to assess demand variability and make informed decisions on inventory levels, resulting in improved service parts availability.
Problem Solving Lead efforts to resolve supply‑chain bottlenecks by analyzing lead times, supplier constraints, and transportation inefficiencies. Utilize Lean Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes, reduce order fulfillment time, and enhance overall supply‑chain responsiveness.
Project Management Manage end‑to‑end planning projects, including new product introductions and global sourcing transitions. Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and manufacturing teams to ensure timely execution, while tracking milestones and KPIs to maintain alignment with strategic goals.
Logistics Management Knowledge of logistics and management; Leverages Microsoft Excel for planning, tracking, and reporting logistics activities, and utilizes SAP (preferred) to manage system‑based workflows, monitor performance, and ensure seamless integration across logistics functions.
Supply Chain Management – MFG Leverage deep understanding of Caterpillar’s manufacturing supply chain, including MRP, S&OP, and supplier collaboration. Develop and implement planning strategies that balance production capacity with demand forecasts, ensuring optimal inventory levels and minimizing disruptions in the build schedule.
Additional Information This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Denison, TX office.
