Description Of Job The Mental Health Supervisor position provides leadership, supervision, oversight and vision for the mental health clinical program. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Planning, directing, and maintaining delivery of mental health services, assuring compliance with mental health guidelines, and managing appropriate use of resources.
Coordinating with facility administration and staff, as well as with other clinical administrators, regarding the mental health needs of offenders; establishing treatment plans for the treatment and management of offenders with mental illness or mental problems, or other special needs populations.
Providing training regarding mental health needs and issues; directing the management of psychiatric crises and or emergencies.
Supervising, organizing, reviewing, and evaluating the work of staff for competency and efficiency; recommending hiring and corrective action of assigned staff with accurate, timely, and appropriate documentation.
Maintaining the standard of care compliance with all applicable mental health standards; interfacing between the mental health clinical program/unit and Clinical Services administration, other CDOC departments/facilities, and outside agencies.
Facilitating communication to assure staff receives clear accurate and congruent information on a consistent basis; facilitating team building within the unit and between the clinical program or unit and other CDOC departments.
Responsible for payroll entry and solving problems for day‑to‑day mental health operations of assigned unit or program.
Acting as a consultant and providing training to facility, community, and state service providers on issues related to treating incarcerated offenders diagnosed with mental illness, or other special needs populations.
Participating in formal and informal mental health evaluations, assessing psychiatric and developmental disability levels; group, brief, and individual therapy, and crisis intervention to include participation in a 24‑hour Mental Health On‑Call rotation.
Maintaining required credentials to include licensure and any certifications required for specialized practice such as sex offender treatment or domestic violence.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicant must possess a valid, active license from the State of Colorado as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Applicant must have two (2) years of licensed or license candidacy experience, with current valid licensure from the State of Colorado to include Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker Candidate (SWC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate, and experience must be with the mental health and/or sex offender population.
Required Competencies
Advanced knowledge and a thorough understanding of Mental Health standards and guidelines.
Ability to continuously expand knowledge base through continuing education of innovative clinical techniques and research.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across facility programs and with external agencies.
Strong leadership and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to read and comprehend the English language.
Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.
Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind.
Ability to provide direct patient care to offenders.
Must maintain required licensure.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience over professional, behavioral health staff. Supervisory experience includes making decisions that affect the pay, status and tenure of subordinate employees.
Clinical supervision and/or instruction over employees and/or interns to include guiding diagnostic assessments, reviewing treatment plans and measuring treatment goals.
Experience providing mental health treatment and discharge planning with the severely mentally ill and developmentally disabled population.
Experience which includes leadership and oversight of a mental health program.
Extensive licensed experience providing mental health treatment.
