Surgical Technologist 3
— Full-Time Days, 3 twelve hour shifts per week, rotating weekends Location: Baylor, Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, Ft Worth, TX Specialty: Certified Surgical Technologist, Women’s Surgery Responsibilities
Function in the inter operative phase of patient care to expedite surgical procedures under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assist the surgical team through the use of equipment and instrumentation to ensure a safe operating room environment and available, functioning equipment. Maintain equipment, instruments and supplies for a specified surgical service line; act as liaison to surgeons and other team members. Discuss special needs with the surgeon before surgery and scrub into surgery to prepare instruments. Aseptically prepare the operative site; clip patient as needed. Prepare and maintain instrument tables; identify damaged or incomplete trays and rectify discrepancies to avoid delays or injury. Set up the operating room per procedure schedule; arrange sterile equipment and open only needed supplies. Scrub for cases in all major surgical services; maintain advanced knowledge of anatomy, instruments, surgeon preferences, and related topics. Ensure proper functioning of instruments, equipment and supplies during procedures. Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and misc. items according to policies. Anticipate the surgeon’s and team’s needs; pass sterile supplies, handle retractors, and respond during surgery. Assist with draping and positioning the patient. Receive surgical specimens per protocol and pass to circulating nurse, verifying source. Disassemble instrumentation post-procedure; dispose of sharps, fluids and waste appropriately; prepare soiled instrumentation for decontamination. Ensure cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance, and preparation of instruments and supplies for distribution. Clean the operating room after each case and return equipment to storage. Follow infection control policies, AORN recommendations, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to ensure a safe work environment. Ensure proper orientation and knowledge of all equipment prior to patient use. Maintain inventory of clean and sterilized equipment and supplies; monitor and document equipment use and cart supplies. Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited program. Experience: 2 years of experience. Certification/License: Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) per NBSTSA or NCCT or equivalent. If military/Public Health Service ST training or prior practice before 9/1/2009, HS/GED may be sufficient; otherwise, must have accredited ST program and current CST.
