Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Engineering Manager
role at
FTI
Key Responsibilities
Structural and thermal impact analysis of power distribution enclosures, switchboard enclosures, data center enclosures (including components like panels, mounting brackets, busbars, wiring, circuit breakers) and battery energy storage systems
Modeling of enclosures to simulate loading conditions (loading, transporting, environmental conditions) and mechanical stress to identify potential weaknesses in the design and optimize structural integrity before physical prototyping
Simulate and predict the potential for fatigue failure in a component or structure due to repeated thermal cycles, heat rejection of electronic components, and mechanical stress
Model the temperature distribution within the structure or battery pack under different thermal loading conditions including heating and cooling cycles
Optimization of modular enclosure designs (switchboards, UPS, battery pack) to reduce material weight and cost and improve overall robustness and safety
Define, lead, and support FEA processes, best practices, and activities for R&D and product development projects
Lead, guide, and manage a team of FEA engineers
Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
10+ years of experience in FEA modeling
Proven experience in finite element analysis with use of Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL or similar software
Strong knowledge of static and dynamic structural analysis, material strength, and failure modeling for different classes of materials
Knowledge of CAD design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar
Familiarity with renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, power conversion, and energy storage systems and containers
Familiarity with HV power distribution enclosures including UPS, switchboards, batteries, and power electronics
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret simulation results
Ability to effectively communicate technical findings and collaborate with cross‑functional teams
Preferred Requirements
PhD in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field
Experience modeling renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, power conversion, and energy storage systems and containers
Experience modeling power distribution enclosures including UPS, switchboards, batteries, and power electronics
Strong understanding of related regulatory frameworks and industry standards related to the relevant energy technologies: Microgrid, Power generation, and Energy storage.
Demonstrated experience leading activities and processes for FEA modeling and analysis across the organization
Travel 10-25%
