Account Executive, Earned Media We are looking for a strategic storyteller to shape news coverage and build impactful media relationships.
The role supports the development and execution of earned media campaigns that elevate our clients’ voices across sectors and audiences.
Responsibilities
Draft and edit high‑quality earned media materials, including press releases, pitches, media advisories, op‑eds, and briefing memos.
Support proactive media pitching, outreach planning, and tailored press list creation for each client.
Contribute to earned media scopes, strategy memos, media audits, and landscape analyses.
Collaborate with account teams to execute media plans for events, reports, campaigns, and rapid response moments.
Monitor news landscape, reporter beats, industry trends, and provide timely counsel to clients.
Support media training, interview prep, and message refinement for clients.
Manage pitching timelines, follow‑ups, and deliverables across accounts with strong attention to detail.
Track, analyze, and report on media coverage to measure impact and extract actionable insights.
Use tools such as Cision, Muck Rack, or Meltwater for press list building, coverage tracking, and analytics.
Build internal earned media tools, best practices, and team‑wide learnings.
Stay informed on media landscape shifts, newsroom changes, outlet trends, and the evolving role of earned media in advocacy campaigns.
Perform other duties as required to support the team and organizational priorities.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in strategic communications or public relations with a focus on earned media relations.
Exceptional writing and editing skills; demonstrated experience in drafting press releases, pitches, and briefing memos.
Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse media contacts across traditional and new media.
Strong sense of media viability and ability to provide strategic, grounded input on newsworthy angles.
Proactive media relations skills, including developing press lists, conducting outreach, and securing top‑tier placements.
Expertise in media monitoring and reporting, measuring success against goals, and synthesizing performance insights.
Highly collaborative mindset; experience working cross‑functionally with account teams on complex campaigns.
Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple timelines, deliverables, and client accounts simultaneously.
Comfort engaging clients and stakeholders in a professional, service‑oriented capacity.
Knowledge of media tools such as Muck Rack, Cision, Meltwater or similar platforms.
Curiosity about how shifts in the media landscape impact advocacy and issue campaigns.
Nice‑to‑Haves
Background in journalism, political communications, podcasting, new media, or newsroom experience.
Existing relationships with reporters or familiarity with key beats in public interest issue spaces.
Experience managing rapid‑response media or staffing high‑pressure media moments.
Familiarity with media training or helping clients prepare confidently for interviews.
Exposure to media coverage analysis or communications audit development.
Experience contributing to editorial strategy for large‑scale advocacy pushes.
