Engineer Associate – Environment – Environmental Protection – Marion Co.

Nature of Work This position is not covered by the WV Division of Personnel merit system. The Engineer Associate will perform professional engineering services under the general supervision of the Fairmont Design Manager and will be assigned to the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation (AML&R), Design Section. Responsibilities include selecting qualified engineering firms to design AML&R projects, managing project schedules, and providing in‑field and office support.
Responsibilities
Monitor contractor development of design plans and specifications; analyze design concepts for feasibility, economics, and conformance to reclamation standards.
Ensure designs meet technical correctness and quality control requirements.
Perform site investigations to evaluate geo‑technical conditions.
Establish project scope, develop design objectives, and determine measures to achieve reclamation objectives.
Conduct field and office meetings and conferences.
Provide technical assistance on design methods and operating procedures.
Coordinate drilling, mapping, surveying, and water monitoring activities.
Perform engineering computations for reclamation design features and evaluate hydrologic, hydraulic, earthwork, and geotechnical data.
Maintain computer workflow reports, progress schedules, and accurate records of design changes and economic impacts.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Expectations and Notes
Computer literate with ability to learn AutoCAD and GIS software.
Regular attendance is essential.
MVR will be screened prior to hiring and annually thereafter.
Applicants must complete an internet‑based profile assessment.
Those involved with DEP programs subject to SMRCA must file a Statement of Employment and Financial Interest annually.
Preference for ABET‑accredited Baccalaureate degrees in Civil, Mining, or Environmental Engineering.
Minimum Qualifications Current Professional Engineer (PE) license
issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Detailed work history is required; please list all prior employment.
Preference will be given to candidates with ABET‑accredited Baccalaureate degrees in Civil, Mining, or Environmental Engineering.
