This is a Correctional Officer position that is assigned to Mobile Custody Team and requires extensive travel statewide.
Location: The position will have an official domicile at the Maryville Treatment Center in Maryville, MO. However, the officer will be required to travel to DAI facilities across the state of Missouri to assist with staffing needs as approved by the respective Deputy Division Director.
Compensation: The annual salary is $45,555.60, based on a normal 40‑hour workweek. The position is also eligible for retention/longevity pay, shift differential and overtime pay in accordance with departmental policy D2-8.4 Compensatory Time and Office of Administration’s Division of Personnel Differential Pay Guidelines.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The Mobile Custody Team Officer will be expected to report to the Maryville Treatment Center by 7 am each Monday and return at approximately 7 pm on Friday. While on assignment, mobile officers will be provided a state vehicle for transportation, lodging while travelling, and reimbursed for meals not provided by the institution or hotel. Mobile Officers will be required to car‑pool in the state vehicle and may be required to reside with a roommate while travelling.
Responsibilities:
Maintain security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders.
Supervise movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility; conduct periodic counts of offenders; search offenders and their living quarters for contraband; escort/transport offenders to predetermined locations.
Supervise offenders in housing units, during work activities, recreational/religious activities, supervisor visits, and search visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband.
Conduct inspections for health and safety hazards; prepare/submit reports on offender violations of divisional or correctional facility rules; report unusual offender behaviors, observed mechanical deficiencies, or security breaches.
Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders; refer serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; promote rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender’s social attitudes, discouraging undesirable behaviors, and encouraging worthwhile activities.
Perform other related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Special Requirements:
Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
By Assignment, a Position May Require:
Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Additional Compensation:
A $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins between 12:00 pm and 5:00 am at a 24/7 congregate care facility.
A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if working full-time at a qualifying facility.
A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
Guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! The Department of Corrections also promotes from within for employees seeking distinctive career paths.
