Education Specialist – Norwood Elementary The Boys & Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley Norwood is seeking a part‑time Education Specialist to help students develop basic educational disciplines, integrate learning into everyday situations, and employ technology. The role focuses on planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs and building strong community partnerships.

Responsibilities

Plan, develop, evaluate, and oversee implementation of educational activities (21st Century, LEAP, Power Hour, etc.) that prepare youth for success.

Monitor educational delivery and collaborate with education staff to plan and implement improvements.

Implement and oversee Project Learn philosophies and high‑yield learning activities throughout the Club.

Communicate with Club staff, members, and partner agencies to ensure understanding of tutoring, homework help, and educational learning opportunities.

Maintain educational program goals and settings that promote the health and safety of members.

Tutor youth when needed to ensure all children receive assistance with homework.

Ensure continual evaluation of educational programs and that programs respond to member needs.

Control program expenditures within the approved budget.

Monitor program areas and provide constructive feedback to staff regarding program delivery, member guidance, and discipline.

Train and guide education instructors to promote a safe, supportive learning environment.

Consult parents on member issues and implement all required grants, including completing monthly reports.

Develop relationships with schools and teachers to ensure youth receive required materials.

Recruit volunteers to assist with tutoring and homework help.

Visit schools, meet with teachers regularly, and manage special programs or events (Keystone, Youth of the Year, Awards Programs).

Plan and coordinate field trips and oversee the Club in the absence of the Club or Program Director.

Maintain dependability, professionalism, appropriate communication, and a positive attitude.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED (required); Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Minimum of two years’ experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization, planning and supervising activities for youth.

Knowledge of curriculum and training design, teaching methods, and training evaluation.

Understanding of youth development theory and the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to supervise and motivate staff and handle discipline issues with youth.

Experience working with young people, parents, and community leaders.

Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

Must remain alert and energetic for 8+ hours.

Must move quickly to keep up with youth.
