Responsibilities

  • Efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, monitoring, and disconnect.
  • Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time, ensuring product quality and donor safety.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explain the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and any other pertinent information.
  • Maintain alertness to any reaction by donors, assist with reactions, or notify appropriate staff.
  • Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
  • Perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in the SOPs; respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures, create incident documentation, and remove and/or replace equipment from service.
  • Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover and alert the Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
  • Understand the policies and procedures associated with hyper‑immune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed; follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures; promote safety in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Be cross‑trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.
  • Possess bilingual skills, if required by the organization.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Minimum twelve (12) months of experience in a medical or health‑care environment (preferred).
  • Persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR current Registered Nurse by the State of California (required for centers located in CA).
