Attorney 2 – Revenue Tax, Kanawha County Join the West Virginia State Tax Division as a full‑performance level attorney (“Attorney 2”). Under direct guidance of senior attorneys, you will provide legal advice and representation on behalf of the agency.

Responsibilities

Represent the Tax Division and Tax Commissioner before the West Virginia Office of Tax Appeals on taxpayer petitions for refund and reassessment.

Research and write briefs; present evidence before the tribunal.

Provide guidance on taxability of goods and services, responding to taxpayer and governmental requests.

Prepare written responses to other government agencies, professional organizations, and private entities on tax issues.

Assist in drafting legislation and rules required to implement tax code changes; review, analyze, and comment on proposed legislation and rules.

Perform administrative‑level representation in property tax valuations and related matters.

Perform related work as required; intermittent travel may be needed and a valid driver’s license is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Admission to the West Virginia State Bar.

Two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid employment in the practice of law.

One year of employment as an attorney with the agency to which assigned may be considered equivalent to two years of experience.
