Position Description
As a Mass Timber Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and detailing of mass timber structures, collaborating with architects, contractors, and clients from concept through construction. You’ll bring expertise in mass timber design and a strong understanding of material behavior, connection detailing, and code requirements to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
Position Salary Range* The expected salary range for this position is $ 70,000
to $ 95,000
annually.
**Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Cushing Terrell will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
***The majority of the time, a person in this role will be sitting in an office with limited physical requirements. This may require individuals to bend, stretch, twist, and reach.
Required Qualifications**
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from ABET accredited four‑year University
5+ years of job‑related experience within United States
Has passed the FE or have EIT certification and
Heavy timber and/or mass timber experience
Intermediate knowledge of Auto CADD, RFEM Dubal, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Risa3D, Microsoft Word, and Outlook
Intermediate understanding of Structural Systems and Design Process
High level of collaboration and communication
Ability to effectively manage time, schedules and budgets
Preferred Qualifications**
Working towards or already have a Professional Engineer License (or ability to obtain by comity) in the state of the hiring Cushing Terrell office
Position Responsibilities***
Work predominantly on heavy/mass timber projects with deferred engineering submittals and construction assistance (rigging/bracing)
Work directly with contractors and manufacturers within the mass timber industry
Competency with engineering in wood design, timber design, steel design, concrete design, masonry design and structural detailing to match
Oversee/Manage all Structural Engineering aspects of projects or work with Senior Engineer
Work independently and oversee other team members to develop construction documents (plans and specifications)
Perform structural engineering analysis and development of design calculations
Potentially prepare engineering studies and reports
Manage structural specific project requirements (scope, budget, and time)
Develop structural related fee proposals and contracts
Mentors and supports the development of young engineers and EITs by providing technical guidance, feedback, and opportunities for professional growth
Develop and maintain client relationships
