Job Title: Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Job Opportunity: Mental Health Teaching Assistant – Wareham
Location: Wareham
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and proactive Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA) to join a nurturing school environment in Wareham. As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to students experiencing emotional or mental health challenges. You’ll work closely with educators, pastoral teams, and external professionals to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Offer one‑on‑one and small group support to students with mental health needs
Assist in developing coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques
Promote positive mental health and well‑being across the school
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and mental health professionals to implement tailored support plans
Encourage participation in classroom and social activities
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and empathetic learning space
Requirements
Experience supporting children or young people with mental health challenges is highly desirable
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and families
Relevant training in mental health or youth support is advantageous
To work with GSL Education as Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you should:
Have the right to work in the UK
Provide an up‑to‑date CV with two relevant references from the last 2 years
Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education
Please be advised that this role requires strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safety recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
