Assistant Director of BioMed Finance
Reporting to the Director of BioMed Finance, the Assistant Director of BioMed Finance serves as a key member of the Division’s financial team. They will provide advisory, operational, and financial services to various programs within the Division, working with department heads on budget and new programmatic initiatives. The role independently resolves routine transactional compliance issues and provides guidance on policy interpretation to the financial and administrative teams in the academic Biology programs, including graduate programs, The Warren Alpert Medical School, and Clinical spaces. This position requires leadership, responsiveness, and tact while interacting with a wide range of constituencies such as department chairs, faculty, administrators, and shared services partners.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership to the Division’s Finance Office, supervising a team of four or more staff including a Manager of Finance Operations, Finance & Operations Specialist, Financial Analyst, and Financial Coordinators.
Deliver exceptional service to departments through financial management, operational budgeting, and strategic initiatives that support the Division’s growth.
Analyze current and historical financial data to recommend fiscal actions ensuring sustainability.
Supervise staff and manage areas such as budget, revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger transactions, and sponsored program impacts.
Coordinate with the Office of Financial Strategy & Planning, BioMed Facilities & Planning, BioMed Research Administration, Shared Services, Controller’s Office, BioMed Advancement, and the Office of the Dean.
Support leadership by directing and coordinating operational finance for assigned areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
5‑7 years of finance/strategy experience, preferably in a medical, academic, or research environment.
Minimum of 2 years of managerial experience.
Experience with NIH research, animal research, human subject research, or complex academic program financial models is a plus.
High competence with computer technology, including database management, spreadsheets, and analytical tools.
Experience with complex ERP systems, particularly Workday and/or Adaptive Systems, strongly preferred.
Job Competencies
