Buyer – Finance Department Join the City of Wichita’s Finance Department as a
Buyer , a vital role that ensures every dollar spent delivers maximum value to the community. As a trusted procurement professional, you will lead competitive sourcing processes, negotiate with vendors, and secure quality materials, services, and equipment that keep City operations running efficiently.

Examples of Work Performed
Compile information and records to draw purchase orders for procurement of a variety of items.
Evaluate comparative information regarding prices, specifications, and delivery dates of supplies.
Evaluate quotations and bids from suppliers.
Coordinate emergency and rush orders.
Confess with vendor representatives and explain city’s purchasing policies and budgetary limitations.
Consult with other divisions regarding requisitions, specifications, costs, and delivery of goods.
Resolve delivery and payment questions and problems.
Monitor and evaluate market trends.
May supervise support staff.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements of Work
Considerable knowledge of purchasing principles and practices.
Knowledge of methods employed in the preparation of specifications, solicitations, and contracts including documentation and recordkeeping for audit purposes.
Knowledge of grades and quantities of commodities purchased and sources of supply.
Proficiency with standard computer keyboard and video display terminal.
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze bids, contracts, and related purchasing documentation.
Ability to quickly develop knowledge of municipal regulations and ordinances governing purchases.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
May require a valid Kansas driver’s license.
No direct threat to health or safety of others.
One year or more experience in a public procurement agency or with ERP procurement workflows is preferred.
Experience with state and federal grant funding sources is preferred.
