Job Summary

This position is located in the District of Columbia at the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD), supporting the Innovation and Equitable Development Division (Inno. ED). DSLBD supports the development, economic growth, and retention of District-based businesses and promotes economic development throughout the District’s commercial corridors. The Inno. ED delivers pilot programs, training, technical assistance, convenings, and grants that remove barriers to entrepreneurship—particularly for historically underserved communities. The Staff Assistant provides essential administrative and operational support to ensure the smooth execution of these programs. Responsibilities include managing internal tracking systems, preparing reports and correspondence, coordinating meetings and events, and supporting communication with grantees, partners, and stakeholders. The Staff Assistant also assists with data collection and analysis, document review, and the development of administrative procedures to improve efficiency. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment. Duties and Responsibilities

Conducts fact‑finding investigations: researching, analyzing, and preparing pertinent data and information for reports, statistical studies, special events, and ongoing projects. Examines and develops background information for use in presenting factual and statistical data for special projects and/or reports. Conducts reviews of the operation(s) of the organization and provides suggestions to the supervisor. Identifies unusual problem areas and makes appropriate recommendations for resolution. Develops administrative data for preparing special reports related to the program. Reviews all correspondence and documents prepared for the supervisor’s signature for grammatical accuracy, procedural conformity, format compliance, and provision of supporting documents. Returns improper correspondence or documents to the originator. Performs ongoing review of administrative and clerical work to ensure business needs are met. Assists in the development of administrative policies and procedures for the office to facilitate timely accomplishment. Qualifications and Education

Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression. Licenses and Certifications

The work is performed in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. A hybrid remote telework/in‑office schedule option is available. Other Significant Facts
