Summary: The Patient Scheduler reports to the Office Manager, performing a variety of clerical, scheduling and record‑keeping duties.

Responsibilities

Answer telephone calls, route calls and/or take messages, and initiate telephone calls as requested.

Enter and edit all patient information into the computer, including patient type and activity.

Follow all clinical informatics downtime procedures for entering data into patient’s electronic profile.

Obtain missing patient data from nursing units or outside facilities, as needed.

Schedule office and testing appointments using Invision/Ecw.

Obtain written physician orders and verify for accuracy and completeness.

Maintain all pertinent paperwork in a daily file for each patient.

Call the physician’s office or appropriate location to obtain required patient history and physical information.

Review physician/testing orders for accuracy and inform Office Manager of discrepancies.

Screen patients, answer questions, and give routine instructions regarding testing preparations.

Instruct patients/physician offices on proper registration procedure and exam prep.

Provide testing clerical support staff with orders.

Provide management with reports.

Contact physicians’ offices regarding patient cancellations or no‑shows.

Assist in training staff and participate in monthly staff meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate plus one year formal training or equivalent; typing and data entry required.

Knowledge of medical terminology; detail oriented.

Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff of all levels.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural diversity.

Two years of clerical experience, preferably in a health care environment.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements Normal office environment. Requires standing, bending, and sitting. Requires sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility None.

Pay Range: $17.77 – $29.31
