The Project Manager oversees the structural design process from inception to construction, handling structural analysis, preparing plans and specifications, and reviewing contractor submittals and RFIs. This role involves problem‑solving, decision‑making, and directing the work of junior engineers and BIM technicians. It coordinates with clients, architects, municipal agencies, and the design team, manages project schedules, forecasts workloads, and handles project communication and documentation. Technical responsibilities include designing and analyzing mid to high‑rise buildings using software like ETABS, SAP, and RAM.

Engineering Skills and Responsibilities

Excellent knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, materials, and procedures within the field of structural engineering and how to apply them to projects.

Designs, formulates plans, and supervises construction projects.

Technical responsibilities include the design and analysis of mid to high‑rise buildings, utilizing software packages such as ETABS, SAP, and RAM.

Supervises the work of junior engineers and participates in project staffing discussions.

Logically and rigorously identifies project issues for the entire project and leads the team in applying solutions.

Thoroughly understands selected approach and efficiently directs implementation of its component parts.

Prepares Design Criteria in consultation with supervisor.

Efficiently handles complex analyses and design.

Reviews shop drawings to ensure alignment with the architectural and structural design plans. Confirms that the materials, dimensions, and methods of fabrication meet the project's technical requirements. Looks for any differences or errors between the shop drawings and the original design documents. Marks up corrections where necessary and approves the drawings once they meet the design and safety criteria.

Thoroughly familiar with code requirements and understands how codes impact design.

Ensures that design standards are implemented throughout the project.

Responsible for thoroughly reviewing the work of others for clarity and accuracy.

Implements decisions made to maintain schedules.

Performs accurate checking of project documentation.

Ensures accuracy and precision across all aspects of work with a high level of attention to detail.

Applies critical thinking and analytical skills, including assessing situations, identifying all issues, and evaluating possible solutions based on data, evidence, and logic.

Actively leads calls and meetings with clients and design team members.

Facilitates communication between clients, architects, and other members of the design team.

Understands the importance of resource utilization, project budget and collected revenue/labor ratios and ensures they are given correct consideration and monitored accurately.

Works with scope items and accurately charges own labor to proper project numbers and ensures this accuracy for other staff on the project.

Provides input and assistance concerning project budgeting and collections.

Prepares fee proposals for issuing to clients and provides training to teammates.

Has detailed understanding of specific project scope, contracts and related subjects and provides guidance to teammates.

Has good understanding of the business’s project financial reports and impact on own practice.

Contributes to Business Development efforts through positive and professional client relationships, nurturing network of contacts and beginning to take steps to self‑generate business.

Actively identifies and supports the business with Business Development initiatives and encourages teammates to do the same.

Promotes self and DeSimone within industry through a variety of formats including attending events, undertaking networking, presenting at events and on webinars, writing articles, utilizing LinkedIn and other relevant formats.

Stays up to date with market trends and competitor activity and identifies new business opportunities.

Has knowledge of range of DeSimone business offering and undertakes appropriate on‑selling opportunities.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering or related field; and ten (10) years of relevant work experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high‑rise buildings, including project management; or

Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering or related field; and eight (8) years of relevant work experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high‑rise buildings, including project management.

Professional Engineer’s (PE) license.

Minimum 7 years of experience in performing and supervising the design and analysis of mid to high‑rise buildings.

Minimum 7 years of experience utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, Rhino, PCA and SAFE.

Minimum 7 years of experience with wind tunnel testing process, applying wind tunnel loads to the lateral model, and supplemental damping strategies.

Minimum (Required) Skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.

Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.

Detail‑oriented with strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, and team skills.

Knowledge of ETABS, SAFE, Rhino, PCA or other similar design tools.

Ability to perform and supervise the design and analysis of mid to high‑rise buildings utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, and SAFE.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Master of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field.

Structural Engineer (SE) License.

Experience working in Grasshopper, a plus.

Salary and Benefits This position is classified as salaried, exempt. The hiring salary range for this role is anticipated to be $90,000‑$110,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications.
