VP, Small Business Lending (SBL) Senior Loan Underwriter
We’re seeking a seasoned Small Business Lending professional to join our growing team as VP, SBL Senior Loan Underwriter. In this high-impact role, you’ll lead the underwriting of SBA-guaranteed loan products (504 and 7(a)), delivering sound credit decisions that fuel small business growth across our markets.
As the Bank’s SBA underwriting expert, you’ll evaluate complex financial data, assess risk, structure credit solutions, and ensure compliance with SBA and internal policies. You’ll work closely with Relationship Managers, Loan Operations, and clients to move loans efficiently from origination through closing.
What You’ll Do
Underwrite and analyze small business credit requests, focusing on SBA 504 and 7(a) loans
Prepare and present comprehensive credit memos with sound financial and risk analysis
Review financial statements, tax returns, appraisals, and collateral documentation
Collaborate with internal teams and borrowers to ensure smooth loan processing and funding
Monitor portfolio performance and assist in restructures or workouts as needed
Support construction lending reviews and contractor qualification
What You’ll Bring
7+ years of small business loan underwriting experience, with 3+ years in SBA lending
Strong grasp of SBA SOPs, credit policy, and risk management
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
Proven ability to manage multiple deals in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication, analytical, and writing skills
Proficiency with loan origination systems (Baker Hill preferred)
