CDOC Social Work/Counselor III – Parole Behavior Health Specialist Location: Denver/Englewood Region, Colorado. Full‑time. Entry level.

Job Overview Colorado Department of Corrections seeks a licensed mental health professional to serve as a Parole Behavior Health Specialist. The role focuses on monitoring and supporting community‑based offenders with mental illness during parole, ensuring compliance with treatment plans, and facilitating coordination with community agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Promote offender success on parole through collaboration with CDOC facilities and community parole supervisors.

Assess community‑based offenders in psychiatric crisis and provide timely intervention in coordination with parole officers.

Support community parole officers and re‑entry specialists to facilitate successful parole for offenders with mental illness.

Coordinate services with community organizations relevant to transition services.

Consult with parole officers on behavioral‑health services needed for community‑based offenders.

Respond to emergent situations regarding offender mental‑health crises while on parole supervision.

Facilitate involuntary psychiatric assessment and/or hospitalization when clinically indicated.

Provide guided treatment engagement services for high‑needs offenders.

Apply evidence‑based practices and report deviations to the Parole Mental Health Coordinator.

Ensure medication orders and psychiatric appointments are scheduled and maintained.

Identify regional resources to meet offender needs, monitor treatment compliance, and evaluate efficacy.

Deliver family preparation classes and psycho‑educational groups.

Produce a monthly report tracking offender status and services provided.

Maintain program standards and update resource information as needed.

Promote multidisciplinary collaboration across parole regions.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid, active license issued by the State of Colorado or participating state in the Social Work Licensure Compact: Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.

One (1) year of licensed or licensure‑candidacy experience with mental‑health and/or sex‑offender populations.

Required Competencies

Self‑control and ability to work in stressful and potentially violent situations.

Emotional resilience and mental stamina under pressure.

Excellent written and verbal communication; proficiency in English.

Criminal‑justice mental‑health assessment and counseling, using agency protocols.

Strong interpersonal skills and competence in working with offenders.

Travel willingness throughout assigned region; ability to use a state‑owned vehicle.

Knowledge of crisis assessment and escalation procedures.

Ability to create accessible documents following plain‑language guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with severely mentally ill and/or developmentally disabled populations.

Experience in a behavioral‑health program with criminal‑justice populations.

Family‑focused behavioral‑health services experience.

Collaboration with community organizations.

Multidisciplinary teamwork background.
