Instructor, Alternative Teacher Certification (Part Time)- Adjunct Pool
Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service.
Responsibilities
Teach courses, demonstrating skill and knowledge in the discipline.
Continuously improve instruction using innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
Develop and submit a syllabus for each course or laboratory within department guidelines.
Plan, develop, and use innovative teaching methods and materials to meet course objectives and learning outcomes.
Evaluate students to measure progress toward stated learning outcomes and provide timely feedback.
Maintain accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines.
Teach courses at various times and locations as needed by the institution and program.
Demonstrate competence and interest in technology use in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.
Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; provide access to students through office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
Establish annual objectives for professional growth with the department chair; keep pace with developments in the discipline and learn new technologies.
Participate in evaluation processes for the self, department, and college.
Participate in scheduled institutional service activities including opening week events, conference days, commencement exercises, discipline committee meetings, and college meetings.
Adhere to all policies and procedures of HCCS; participate in college-related activities such as student activities, recruitment, and community education.
Assist in program and college accreditation efforts, budgeting, and curriculum reviews.
Partner with secondary and post-secondary institutions in course articulation.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education required (Teaching & Learning, Elementary or Secondary Teaching, Administration, Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, Gifted & Talented, Early Childhood, or Bilingual Education).
Texas Teacher Certification required; Texas Alternative Certification preferred.
5 years full‑time teaching experience in Pre‑K through 12 grade required.
1 year campus leadership experience (Principal, Assistant Principal, or Instructional Coach) required.
Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at several sites around Houston.
Knowledge and skill in the use of computer software.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong organizational and planning abilities.
Sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, and disability backgrounds.
Ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning‑centered environment.
Self‑disciplined and able to manage others effectively.
