JAG is seeking a Controller and Vice President in our St. Louis office. Working closely with the CEO and SVP of Operations, this role leads JAG’s financial operations and internal controls, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and audit preparation. This role requires a high degree of accountability, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Position Summary
Oversee general ledger, chart of accounts, journal entries, and accounts payable/receivable.
Manage month‑end and year‑end closings, reconciliations, and accruals.
Maintain accurate cash flow reporting and bank account reconciliations.
Coordinate with JAG’s external accounting firm for tax preparation, annual audits, and year‑end reporting.
Oversee JAG’s banking relationship, including management of the Corporate line of credit.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Provide accurate and timely financial information to JAG’s CEO and Leadership Team.
Prepare annual operating budgets and monitor actual vs. projected performance.
Support CEO and SVP of Operations in analyzing expenses, margins, and profit contribution by strategy and/or client vertical.
Implement and maintain cost tracking and forecasting tools that improve executive decision‑making.
Payroll & Benefits Administration
Administer bi‑weekly payroll and coordinate with HR providers for benefits management.
Accurately track bonus and participation accruals.
Ensure compliance with state and federal tax filings and deadlines.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Maintain sound internal controls over financial reporting and expense approvals.
Coordinate with SVP of Ops and Chief Compliance Officer to ensure financial report aligns with SEC standards for Registered Investment Advisors.
Maintain financial documentation required for Form ADV, regulatory examinations, and corporate filings.
Systems & Process Management
Maintain and optimize QuickBooks Online and Reach Reporting.
Integrate accounting data with portfolio management and fee billing systems, where applicable.
Is This a Match for You?
You are very proficient in GAAP accounting and have a deep understanding of revenue recognition and accrual accounting.
You have a strong understanding of RIA business models, fee revenue accounting, and variable compensation structures.
You are technologically savvy, including expert-level skills working with QuickBooks Online and MS Excel, and you are familiar with Reach Reporting.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. CPA is strongly preferred.
You are collaborative and have a growth mindset. You are intellectually curious and embrace continuous learning. You have superior communication and organizational skills and can manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
