JOB SUMMARY As a Field Service Technician, you’ll be the go-to expert for on‑site diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of Caterpillar (CAT) Power equipment and related systems. You’ll work independently from a fully equipped Quinn CAT service truck, servicing and performing:
CAT diesel and gas generators (5KW to 2MEG)
Control panels and electrical distribution systems
Perform load bank testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance
Use diagnostic tools (e.g., CAT ET (Electronic Technician), SIS (Service Information System), and other computer‑based diagnostic tools/software) to troubleshoot issues
Provide exceptional customer service and technical support
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and documentation standards
Knowledge of automatic transfer switches and control logic
Troubleshooting and diagnosing emergency repair procedures of AC/DC controls
Troubleshooting and diagnosing gas and diesel industrial engines
Reading and understanding wiring diagrams and schematics
Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers
Working independently with minimal daily supervision
Working in a safe manner at all times
COMPETENCIES
Experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel generator systems
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and control diagrams
Military or field‑based experience in equipment diagnostics and repair is highly valued
Comfortable working independently in outdoor environments
Must own and safely use personal mechanic’s tools
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED is required, along with completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power systems, plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in repairing diesel engines, generators, and industrial equipment.
