AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation's American-type cheese, processed cheese, and butter is produced. The cooperative's award-winning cheese, butter, and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail, and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co-op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and the Co-op Crafted promise, highlighting over 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled buttermakers and cheesemakers. This internship provides a learning program designed to train candidates for a potential full-time role similar to the one described below. DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from AMPI, as they continue to receive military pay and benefits. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This list is not exhaustive and may be expanded by management as necessary. Report employee safety, food safety, and food quality issues to authorities. Maintain heightened food safety and quality responsibilities. Provide effective maintenance support, respond promptly to issues, and perform adjustments to ensure safety, product integrity, and efficiency. Ensure safe operations by following Environmental, Health, and Safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, and confined space procedures. Maintain cleanliness and tool accountability in work areas. Operate plant equipment by performing preventive maintenance, following manuals and specifications, and managing startup, operation, shutdown, and maintenance tasks. Perform boiler operation, maintenance, and recordkeeping to ensure safety and efficiency. Maintain ammonia refrigeration systems. Identify and resolve mechanical problems using testing instruments, and assist in root cause analysis. Adjust devices and control instruments with hand tools, and inspect parts for dimensional accuracy. Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on various metals including stainless steel, steel, and aluminum. Use resources efficiently, anticipate needs for equipment, parts, and supplies. Train and assist peers in equipment maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting. Minimize downtime by informing production of maintenance techniques, documenting issues, and corrective actions. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for repairs and parts. Assist in developing maintenance projects, including bill of materials and upgrades. Participate in meetings, suggest improvements, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Pass on ongoing issues and repairs to the next shift. Participate in the Emergency Response program. Assist in training new employees. Follow all safety, food safety, and GMP policies, reporting nonconformities. Perform other duties as assigned. An individual must be able to perform these duties successfully.
