Overview
The VNPC Quality Improvement Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the CDC State Perinatal Quality Collaborative grant. The role ensures deliverables in the work plan are met, collaborates with stakeholders and partners, works with all 49 birth hospitals in Virginia, and strengthens data systems to improve perinatal outcomes. Additional responsibilities may span multiple funding streams to ensure related deliverables across the VNPC are completed. The position supports a fast-paced environment, manages multiple projects, and requires strong knowledge of maternal and infant health, public health principles, and effective written and verbal communication. Proficiency in project management, quality improvement methodologies, and development of comprehensive workplans is essential. The position reports to the VNPC Senior Manager and serves as the VNPC quality improvement subject matter expert for grant design, implementation, and deliverables across the Commonwealth. This is a collaborative, growth-focused role in a multidisciplinary team setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Administration
Proactively monitor and manage grant budgets and expenditures to align with project goals, funding requirements, and institutional policies. Reconcile monthly financial reports, maintain accurate documentation, and address discrepancies or compliance issues in coordination with the supervisor. Advise leadership on potential fiscal risks, compliance concerns, and opportunities for improved financial efficiency. Support routine fiscal operations, including invoice processing, budget tracking, and preparation of financial summaries for reporting and audits. Program Activities
Apply public health core values and advanced quality improvement methodologies to design, implement, and evaluate initiatives at local, system, and state levels. Cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships with healthcare systems, state agencies, stakeholders, and community organizations to improve maternal and infant health outcomes. Serve as the VNPC's QI subject matter expert, delivering technical assistance, coaching, and capacity-building support to hospital teams and partners. Develop, manage, and refine comprehensive workplans aligned with grant objectives, ensuring measurable progress and adaptability. Lead the execution of grant deliverables with precision and timeliness, including preparation and submission of reports to agency, legislative, and federal entities. Planning and Evaluation
Lead design, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives using standard methodologies (e.g., PDSA cycles, driver diagrams, root cause analysis). Develop strategic plans and implementation frameworks to address gaps, align with public health priorities, and optimize resources. Research and identify new funding opportunities; contribute to grant writing and proposal development for program expansion. Provide monthly data reporting and interpretation for QI projects to ensure clarity and relevance for stakeholders. Act as a thought partner and subject matter expert in maternal and infant health to guide strategic direction across VNPC initiatives. Analyze monthly data trends to inform planning and continuous improvement efforts. Community and Interagency Relationships
Build and sustain strategic partnerships with state agencies, healthcare systems, community organizations, and stakeholders to advance maternal and infant health initiatives. Represent VNPC on statewide committees and coalitions as a quality improvement and public health advocate. Facilitate cross-sector collaboration by aligning goals, identifying joint opportunities, and promoting data-informed decision-making. Plan and coordinate community health promotion events with local leaders and health systems, aligning with VNPC’s mission. Engage with partners to foster trust, promote transparency, and strengthen program impact. Customer Service

Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Nursing, or related field, with several years of progressive experience in maternal and infant health, public health, or quality improvement. Ability to work independently while managing multiple complex projects across funding streams and stakeholder groups. Excellent customer service skills. Experience across agencies, hospital systems, or similar entities. Experience with fiscal administration, including budget monitoring, reconciliation, and compliance oversight. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Superior communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse constituents. Experience in community engagement, nonprofit management, or volunteer coordination. Demonstrated ability to foster a respectful, professional, and civil environment for a diverse workforce. Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree (MPH, MHA, MSN, or equivalent) and/or formal training in quality improvement (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, IHI). Direct experience with perinatal health initiatives or hospital-based QI projects. Familiarity with CDC PQC grant requirements or similar federally funded public health initiatives. Experience developing and implementing educational or outreach programs in higher education, healthcare, or public health settings. Proficiency in data analysis, dashboard interpretation, and translating findings into actionable strategies. Additional Information
