A Day in the Life Oversee treatment of animals – sick, injured, abused, and shelter animals – including general surgery, dentistry, and spay/neuter. Administer excellent patient care in a well‑equipped trauma hospital with in‑house lab equipment, digital X‑ray, and ultrasound. Perform physical exams, diagnostics, therapeutics, and determine appropriate disposition for animals. Provide accurate care instructions to a team of veterinary technicians. Serve as a positive leader, promoting a professional image through interactions with employees, donors, stakeholders, and the media.
Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor Degree and license to practice in Arizona (or ability to obtain AZ license)
Active DEA license required
2–3 years of experience in a veterinary practice required
Experience working in an animal shelter preferred
Above‑average surgical and dental skills preferred
Orthopedic surgical skills a plus
Must work well in a team environment and provide exceptional customer service internally and externally
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Language Skills: Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful.
Mathematical Skills: Understanding of retail and cash handling operations required.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or ability to learn/use Chameleon software for use with animals in a shelter environment.
