Welding Supervisor Position Summary We are seeking a hands-on Welding Supervisor to provide strong leadership, guidance, and direction to our welding team. This role requires both technical expertise and interpersonal skills to supervise, train, and coach production leads and employees. The Welding Supervisor will work closely with the Operations Manager to implement policies, improve efficiencies, and uphold standard work procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean work environment by ensuring employees follow all safety protocols, control points, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet engineering print specifications and customer standards in coordination with the Plant Manager.
Production Management: Develop and oversee production plans, including scheduling, assigning personnel, setting priorities, and resolving issues to ensure efficiency and on-time completion.
Team Leadership: Supervise and support a team of 20+ production staff, fostering a high-performance culture, reducing turnover, and optimizing labor efficiencies.
Performance Monitoring: Communicate job expectations, monitor daily performance, and provide regular feedback through performance appraisals.
Employee Development: Coach, counsel, and, when necessary, implement disciplinary actions to maintain workforce standards and morale.
Collaboration: Work closely with the VP of Operations, Operations Manager, and HR Manager to recruit, hire, onboard, and train employees.
Workplace Presence: Maintain an active and visible leadership presence on the plant floor, ensuring support and responsiveness to employee needs.
Process Improvement: Recommend equipment and tools to enhance safety and productivity, ensuring proper maintenance through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies.
Problem Solving: Analyze data, investigate personnel issues, and collaborate with HR and Operations leadership to identify and implement solutions.
Additional duties as assigned by management.
Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to motivate and develop employees in a manufacturing environment.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, particularly in resolving welding and production challenges.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
Strong knowledge of MIG welding techniques, materials, and quality control standards.
Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast‑paced environment with shifting demands.
Proficient in process improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with employees, leadership, and cross‑functional teams.
Experience using manufacturing and production software to track performance, plan schedules, and monitor quality control.
Knowledge of OSHA and workplace safety regulations relevant to welding and manufacturing operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience in Production or Operations Management in a similar manufacturing environment.
2–5+ years of MIG welding experience in an industrial setting.
2–5+ years of supervisory or management experience within a welding or manufacturing environment.
Proven experience in team leadership, employee coaching, process improvement, and production planning.
Strong ability to read and interpret product blueprints and engineering specifications.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Fast‑paced manufacturing environment with various moving elements.
Exposure to powered lift equipment, conveyors, high‑temperature ovens, welders, presses, saws, and other shop floor machinery.
Ability to operate industrial equipment, including bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and turning.
Requires prolonged periods of standing on the shop floor and working in varying temperatures (hot in summer, cold in winter), with exposure to dust and loud noise levels.
