Position Summary Assist the dental provider in delivering high‑quality dental services to Sea Mar patients.
The role includes chair‑side assistance, patient education, and care coordination while maintaining strict infection control and compliance with quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide chair‑side assistance to dental providers using four‑handed dentistry technique for diagnostic, preventative, restorative, endodontic, periodontal, oral surgical, prosthodontic, orthodontic, and other procedures allowed by the Washington Dental Practice Act.
Identify and categorize patients' needs by age group (infant, adolescent, geriatric).
Escort patients to and from treatment rooms; greet, seat, and depart patients courteously and professionally.
Deliver patient education and instructions before, during, and after procedures.
Communicate provider and patient flow delays to the Lead Dental Assistant, provider, patients, and front desk staff.
Participate in appointment scheduling and patient registration in Dentrix and Allscripts PM.
Complete thorough, accurate charting in Dentrix using S.O.A.P. or P.A.R.T.S. format.
Obtain vital sign readings as directed by the dental provider.
Maintain sterilization and OSHA compliance in all clinic areas.
Perform tasks outlined in the Dental Department Policy or as assigned by supervisor or regional manager.
Train new employees and assist dental trainees.
Help with inventory management and ordering of dental supplies.
Participate in quality improvement activities within the dental department and Sea Mar Community Health Centers.
Perform temporary duties in other departments or dental sites as assigned by supervisor.
Required Competencies
Pass pre‑hire competency test (≥80% correct); complete subsequent competency tests within 60 days of hire and annually thereafter.
Maintain current Washington State Dental Assistant registration; obtain BLS CPR within 90 days of hire.
Complete TB test annually; annual influenza vaccination (unless medically or religiously exempt).
Exempt employees must wear a mask during flu season.
Read and write in English; effective oral and written communication with patients and staff.
Basic mathematical abilities (e.g., calculating discounts, percentages).
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent (GED); formal dental assistant program completion or minimum one year of work experience.
Strong problem‑solving, reasoning, and data‑analysis skills.
Physical & Work Environment
Regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching; lift up to 50 lbs.
Work in moderate to loud noise environment; share workspace with other staff.
Use ergonomically adjusted office furniture when available.
Travel may be required within the region.
