Your Career You will be part of the team that develops the Intrusion Prevention System to power Palo Alto Networks’ next firewall. The content team is responsible for decoding network protocols, identifying applications and detecting threats on enterprise customers’ networks, providing a common service to support a variety of network security services.
Your Impact
Research protocol RFCs and related application implementations.
Research common file types for file identification, blocking, DLP, etc.
Research and provide defense mechanisms against popular protocol/firewall evasions.
Develop protocol and file type decoders, and integrate the detection solutions into the IPS engine of the Palo Alto Networks next firewall.
Build common services to support various network security services.
Develop internal tools to monitor and support the cyber security products.
Cross‑team collaboration, discovering and integrating advanced cybersecurity features into inline product solutions.
Qualifications
Strong programming skills in C/C++ or Go.
Passion and enthusiasm for cyber security, technology, and digital investigations.
Excellent understanding of common networking protocols such as HTTP, SSL, SMTP, FTP, Websocket, GRPC, etc.
Experience in analyzing network traffic using tools like Wireshark, Fiddler, tcpdump is a plus.
Team player with good communication skills to work with cross‑functional groups.
Familiar with Linux/Unix development environment is a plus.
Knowledge and experience of next firewall and cyber security services is a plus.
BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience or equivalent military experience required.
The Team The Security Services Team is responsible for building next‑threat prevention and antivirus solutions and shipping high‑quality content to our products to prevent successful cyberattacks. The areas include malware analysis, IoT security, Web security, network security, and privacy protection. Engineering is at the core of our products and is directly connected to our mission of preventing cyberattacks.
Compensation Disclosure The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non‑sales roles) is expected to be between $126,000/year and $204,500/year. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.
