The Janitorial Technician (Hybrid) is responsible for both maintaining the cleanliness of the Tamarac Family Emergency Non-Congregate Shelter and assisting in the preparation and turnover of rooms for new guests. This dual-role supports the day-to-day sanitation and infection control of shelter spaces, as well as rapid and dignified room flipping between family stays.

General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

Custodial Responsibilities
Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms, kitchens, common areas, and residential spaces. Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect all assigned areas. Restock supplies including soap, paper products, and cleaning materials. Remove trash and recycling, ensuring proper disposal. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laundry room, including lint trap cleaning, spill cleanup, and daily equipment checks. Follow all OSHA, ADA, and HOST safety requirements and infection-control procedures. Safely operate custodial equipment and use cleaning chemicals according to training. Assist with special cleaning projects, including floor care, deep cleaning, and seasonal tasks. Maintain accurate logs of cleaning tasks and supply usage. Provide excellent customer service to residents and staff.
Laundry Responsibilities
Support laundry operations as assigned. Sort, wash, dry, and fold large volumes of laundry including bedding and towels, as needed. Operate commercial-grade washers and dryers safely and efficiently. Track laundry inventory and ensure clean linens are available for staff to use during room turnovers.
Room Flipping Responsibilities
Prepare guest rooms for new family arrivals by cleaning, sanitizing, and resetting units after check-out. Strip and replace linens, restock toiletries, and ensure all surfaces and equipment are sanitized to shelter standards. Coordinate with facilities and shelter teams to ensure units are flipped efficiently and on schedule. Report any damages or maintenance needs discovered during the room flipping process. Ensure each flipped room meets trauma-informed and dignified shelter presentation standards. Other tasks as assigned by the Senior Facilities Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of custodial and room turnover practices in residential or shelter environments. Ability to handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely. Strong attention to detail and quality control standards. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively under time-sensitive conditions. Commitment to equity, dignity, and trauma-informed shelter care.
Expected Hours of Work
Full-Time (may include evenings, weekends, and holidays)
Physical Demands
Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and moving equipment. Regularly required to lift/move up to 40 lbs. Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Experience and Education Required
High school diploma or GED preferred. Prior custodial, housekeeping, or janitorial experience required.
