Position Overview Henry Ford Health is seeking a skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a contingent position in Neurosurgery at Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing, collaborative neurosurgery team in a top-tier facility.
Weekend requirement Yes, 1 shift per 6-week schedule.
Call requirement No.
GENERAL SUMMARY The Specialty/Invasive Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The Specialty/Invasive NP will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Works in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience. Works in one of the following departments: Cardiovascular Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ICU, Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery, Urgent Care, Urology.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Master's degree in nursing.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Current State license as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS. Current ACLS/ATLS/PALS provider status as required by department.
Qualifications
NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensure and Certification
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.
DEA - NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs. When NPs apply, they will enter MI license number instead of controlled substance license since they won't have a CSL.
Experience
Prior APP experience is highly preferred – at least 1 year.
ICU and/or neurosurgery experience highly recommended.
Skills
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
