This Clinical Research Assistant will join a team of clinicians and researchers in Ophthalmology dedicated to understanding blinding pediatric retinal diseases and identifying patients eligible for treatment trials. As a Clinical Research Assistant, you will be involved in reviewing medical records to extract details of ophthalmic and genetic data for analysis and preparation for publication. Facility with Excel is critical; familiarity with MATLAB, R, and other analysis programs is useful. On occasion, you may assist with study visits for clinical trials. A collaborative spirit is essential to good performance on this job. This is a great position to learn about ophthalmology, clinical research, and different aspects of a medical and research setting.

Key Responsibilities

Review patient medical records to extract and document ophthalmic history.

Create and prepare data collection statistical reports and analytical summaries for distribution to the study research team for review and analysis.

Write articles and summary papers of studies for submission to medical journals, as may be necessary or requested.

Coordinate and prepare the necessary documentation for Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Committee on Clinical Investigations (CCI) submissions, together with the private investigator of the study.

Participate in the training of newly hired research study assistants, as required.

Coordinate activities between the hospital and research laboratories to ensure correct testing/processing and send out instructions specific to the study.

Communicate project policies and procedures to personnel.

Monitor and review data collection and data entry, and informed consent procedures to ensure consistency of application for each study.

Perform other miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in STEM or Psychology.

Analytical skills to gather and interpret data with moderate to complex problems.

Well‑developed communication skills to provide critical information to team members, effectively deal with conflicting views or issues, and mediate fair solutions.

Problem‑solving, troubleshooting abilities, and resourcefulness.

Ability to make a 2‑year commitment.

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good‑faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Base pay depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job‑related factors.
