Job Summary The Lead Headend Engineer maintains the Telecommunications Network Management/Inside Plant, ensuring reliability and continuous service improvement.
Responsibilities
Support daily operations and project requests from the Area Manager.
Support the implementation and integration of newer technology.
Operate the Inside Plant with the goal to increase reliability and ensure the network meets or exceeds Optimum specifications.
Improve service by continuous network analysis and adapting to new technologies.
Represent or back‑fill for the Area Manager during absences.
Complete assigned projects on time and within budget.
Operate within budget guidelines.
Motivate and engage the team, providing clear direction and demonstrating ownership.
Ensure all employees demonstrate identified behaviors and customer‑focused decisions that align with business goals.
Maintain positive relationships, resolving conflict constructively.
Provide the team with exposure to new ideas and encourage collaboration for further improvements.
Monitor priorities, scorecards, and progress; communicate re‑prioritization when necessary.
Deliver ongoing feedback, coaching, development plans, and training to reinforce appropriate behaviors.
Interact with other support groups to resolve technical issues and meet new product launches.
Accurately manage payroll time sheets and overtime usage.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels for equipment and supplies.
Participate in special projects and perform other duty assignments.
Conduct formal performance reviews and provide coaching.
Maintain professional conduct while holding team, peers, and oneself accountable for values and performance standards.
Perform interviews and provide recommendations for open positions.
Determine and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions for performance improvement plans.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of Inside Plant design and operation; ability to perform ISP Tech III duties.
Familiarity with local/state/federal and FCC performance testing and regulations.
Full understanding of industry standards.
Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, trends, and develop procedures to increase reliability.
Proven leadership skills.
Two years of Headend maintenance experience.
College, technical school, or equivalent.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Availability for 24‑hour standby shifts.
Proficiency in spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and word processing.
Strong analytical skills.
