Michael Best is seeking a

Discovery Specialist

to join our CO, IL, NC, UT, or WI office. The Discovery Specialist will be responsible for managing data in the firm’s internal and hosted document review platforms. Data management responsibilities include quality checking, documenting (for defensible audit trails), reporting, analysis, and maintenance.

What You’ll Be Doing

Work closely with legal teams to perform the analytical and support aspects of data management throughout the eDiscovery lifecycle

Manage document review platforms containing client evidence and firm work product, including Relativity

Drive eDiscovery processing and review platforms: process data, load into review platform, perform analytics and predictive coding, convert natives to images, perform OCR on non-searchable documents, perform logical document unitization, code documents, build production sets, create load files, and endorse production copies (with Bates numbers or confidentiality designations)

Consult with legal teams, discovery vendors and technical support teams to implement workflows and best practices for eDiscovery and litigation support

Manage and evaluate work performed by third party eDiscovery vendors for quality assurance

Research and leverage legal technologies to aid legal practitioners and minimize client expenses

Track firm and vendor metrics to optimize departmental performance, and manage invoices and budgeting

Maintain discovery data by archiving/prepping data for warm and cold storage, exporting data for offline storage or returning to clients, and deleting data

Prepare and transfer data for review, deposition, court proceedings, trial, or presentation

Take ownership and work with internal and external resources to troubleshoot technical roadblocks and complex situations; clearly document results in the knowledge base and appropriately communicate results to the entire Litigation Support team

Participate in process improvement and the evaluation of new technology

Participate in local and national thought leadership groups, such as ILTA, ACEDS, EDRM, and/or SEDONA

Implement and utilize best practices and/or quality processes to deliver a high-quality work product; productivity and quality will be tracked and trended to demonstrate the level of performance within the role

Leverage the department work management system to stay organized and effectively communicate updates to the entire Litigation Support team

Consistently complete work requests in an accurate and timely manner and over‑communicate work status

Knowledge Base & Education

2 years of experience working for a litigation support group within a mid- or large‑size law firm; project management experience working for an eDiscovery vendor, or experience working in corporate eDiscovery department

Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but an associate degree in the same field combined with applicable experience may be considered

Industry recognized certifications (preferred), software certifications (preferred), and willingness to train for CEDS

Knowledge of electronic discovery principles and best practices

Knowledge of electronic discovery developments, such as Sedona Conference Principles

Knowledge of litigation support and discovery software, particularly Relativity

Knowledge of litigation matter lifecycle

Ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices as the position evolves and Firm needs change

Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team, with a desire to be part of a collaborative, high‑performing group

Strong organization skills and high attention to detail

Performance Recognition

Compensation for this position will range from $115,000 - $130,000, depending on experience and location.
