Instructor, Surgical Technology (Part Time) - Adjunct Pool Provide the expertise and knowledge that supports the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies, and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development, and institutional and community service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching

Demonstrate skill and knowledge in the teaching discipline.

Participate in data collection, analysis, documentation, and reporting of student, course, and program outcomes to improve teaching and learning.

Continuously improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies.

Develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory and submit it to the department chair.

Plan, develop, and use diverse teaching methods and materials that accommodate varied educational backgrounds and learning styles.

Evaluate students and provide timely progress feedback.

Maintain accurate student records and complete reports within required timelines.

Review, evaluate, and recommend student textbooks and learning materials.

Teach courses at various times and locations in response to institutional needs.

Use equipment and facilities responsibly; assist with routine maintenance of instructional laboratories when appropriate.

Demonstrate competence in classroom technology and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies.

Academic Advising

Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Provide access through office hours, electronic communication, and other suitable methods.

Offer advice and assistance on instructional or program-specific issues.

Provide presentations on academic programs, opportunities, and career pathways.

Manage an online website dedicated to program information.

Collaborate with the Chair on academic advising activities as needed by the college and department.

Professional Development

Establish annual objectives for professional growth in consultation with the department chair.

Keep pace with developments in the discipline.

Learn and apply technologies that support student learning.

Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.

Institutional and Community Service

Participate in scheduled institutional service activities, including opening week events, conferences, and commencement exercises.

Attend discipline committee or program meetings and activities.

Contribute to department, college, or system meetings and/or committees.

Follow all policies and procedures of HCCS.

Engage in college-related activities such as student activities, faculty selection, community education, recruitment, enrollment, and retention.

Participate in business or student activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission of HCCS.

Support accreditation standards and planning processes.

Assist in curricula and program reviews to ensure compliance with professional and state guidelines.

Articulate courses and programs with secondary and post‑secondary institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Associate’s degree or higher required.

Certification as a surgical technologist or graduation from an accredited surgical technology program, or licensed registered nurse in Texas with extensive OR experience (license must be presented at interview).

Eligibility to teach clinical courses at HCC’s affiliate sites by meeting any entry requirements for those sites.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of full‑time experience in an operating room, current and relevant.

Preference for individuals with experience supervising students in a surgical technology program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to teach day or evening classes at multiple city sites.

Proficient in computer usage and software relevant to teaching.

Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication.

Strong organizational and planning skills.

Sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio‑economic, and disability backgrounds.

Ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning‑centered environment.

Self‑disciplined and capable of managing collaborators effectively.
