Job Summary An experienced technician will perform Quality Audits on completed locating tickets and oversee contractors engaging in excavation around utility facilities. The role focuses on preventing damage to critical infrastructure, monitoring excavations, and ensuring accurate locating and marking.
Responsibilities
Perform quality audits of completed locating tickets, inspecting locate marks, marking standards, E‑Sketch documentation, billing and status codes, screen capture/photography, and ticket work area scope.
Focus on accuracy and marking standards during audits.
Communicate serious concerns to supervisors immediately and ensure they are addressed onsite.
Compare real‑world conditions to record documentation to identify errors and omissions.
Verify client facility locations within specified dig extents and watch and protect client facilities as directed.
Understand contractor methods for subsurface installations.
Monitor and provide surveillance of critical infrastructure where excavations are taking place or expected to occur.
Contact excavators and schedule monitoring of critical excavations.
Locate and mark underground facilities using industry tools, standards, and methods.
Perform ticket audits to ensure locators accurately locate facilities and follow proper marking procedures.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED certificate.
Valid driver’s license.
Minimum 2 years of experience in the locating industry.
Background check required with no violations in the last 5 years.
DOT drug test required.
Essential Skills & Experience
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
Knowledge of safe worksite practices.
Experience with underground infrastructure construction and installation.
Experience with utility standard designs and complex urban underground utility infrastructure.
Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
Basic maintenance of industry‑standard locating equipment.
Basic communication and tech device usage.
Physical Requirements
Move around construction sites, public streets, and parkways.
Lift up to 50–75 lbs.
Stand, walk, kneel, or sit for extended periods.
Hand‑eye coordination for operating computers and measurement instruments.
Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
Work Environment
Work outside in all weather conditions year‑round.
Occasional work in excavations, roadways, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
Moderate to loud noise levels occasionally.
