FT Faculty – Cybersecurity Operations Management and Director of NCI

Excelsior University seeks a dedicated cybersecurity educator and leader to serve as Full-Time Faculty in Cybersecurity and Director of the National Cybersecurity Institute (NCI). This role combines the responsibilities of a full-time teaching faculty member with the strategic leadership of Excelsior’s NCI – an academic and research center dedicated to cybersecurity education, workforce development, and national collaboration. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in online teaching, applied cybersecurity expertise, and a commitment to advancing the University’s role as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). The Director will lead initiatives that engage government, industry, and academic partners; coordinate CAE-CD activities; and support student success through outreach, events, and professional development opportunities.
This position is hybrid – St. Peterberg, FL with virtual meetings and potential travel to conferences and Albany, NY for planning or training purposes.
Primary Responsibilities Teaching and Curriculum
Teach 8-10 courses (24-30 credits per year) in cybersecurity and related areas such as network security, digital forensics, penetration testing, or risk management.
Maintain an active and engaging presence in online classrooms to foster student success and retention.
Apply real-world cybersecurity scenarios, case studies, and ethical considerations to teaching practice.
Lead or support the development and continuous improvement of courses aligned with CAE-CD Knowledge Units, the NICE Framework, and current industry standards.
Participate in course development, program review, assessment, and accreditation activities to ensure quality and continuous improvement.
Mentor part-time faculty and contribute to building a strong teaching culture centered on academic excellence and inclusion.
Director, National Cybersecurity Institute (NCI) (2‑3 hours a week)
Provide direction for the NCI, ensuring alignment with Excelsior University’s mission and strategic goals.
Maintain the University’s National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE‑CD) designation and serve as liaison to NSA, DHS, and partner institutions.
Supervise NCI fellows and promote student engagement in cybersecurity competitions and professional development.
Community Engagement and Outreach
Lead annual cybersecurity education and awareness initiatives, including Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
Coordinate regional/national events advancing workforce development and public awareness.
Represent Excelsior at CAE‑CD and national cybersecurity events, fostering collaboration with faculty, students, and external partners.
Scholarship
Pursue and manage cybersecurity-related grants, serving as PI/Co‑PI as appropriate.
Publish, present, and engage in scholarly activities that elevate Excelsior’s reputation in cybersecurity education and workforce development.
Oversee NCI communications and reporting, ensuring visibility of research, outreach, and impact.
Professional and Institutional Service
Serve on School and University committees to support Excelsior’s strategic and academic goals.
Participate in initiatives that enhance student engagement, diversity, and inclusion in cybersecurity education.
Support recruitment, retention, and mentoring of cybersecurity students.
Maintain active participation in professional organizations, industry partnerships, and CAE communities.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, or related technical field with significant professional experience and industry certifications required; doctoral degree preferred.
Five or more years of professional or teaching experience in cybersecurity, information security, or IT operations.
Proven excellence in online or hybrid teaching and curriculum development.
Demonstrated leadership or project management experience within cybersecurity education or workforce initiatives.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
Commitment to Excelsior University’s mission and CARES Credo.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and instruction.
Proficiency with online learning platforms (Canvas preferred) and virtual cybersecurity labs (e.g., TestOut, Cyber Range, AWS Academy, TryHackMe).
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in Cybersecurity, Information Assurance, or related discipline.
Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH, CySA+, or PenTest+).
Experience with CAE‑CD designation management or participation.
Experience in grant writing, conference presentation, or applied cybersecurity research.
Skills
Excellence in written and verbal communication.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a remote work environment.
Proven ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate ideas into measurable outcomes.
The hiring salary range for this position is $75,000.00 – $80,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University’s good faith estimate at the time of posting.
