Overview The Accountant coordinates, compiles, reviews, analyzes, reconciles, and interprets financial information from various sources and prepares working papers and internal, statutory and GAAP-based company financial statements and supplementary schedules for one or more companies, branches, and/or divisions. The position will be based at National Indemnity Company in Omaha, Nebraska, and is eligible for hybrid status after a period of in‑office training. This position is not eligible for employer visa sponsorship.

What you will do

Compile, review, analyze, and reconcile financial information and prepare working papers and internal, statutory and GAAP-based company financial statements and supplementary schedules.

Reconcile assigned company investment and cash accounts and perform basic general ledger account reconciliations.

Coordinate communication of daily, monthly, and year‑end accounting and financial statement information between various offices and Omaha.

Review and suggest improvements for the design and maintenance of processes, reconciliations, and databases used for financial reporting.

Respond to inquiries from internal and external auditors, state regulators, and other stakeholders regarding financial transactions, balances, and procedures.

May supervise intern(s) and assign projects and tasks, including auditing daily disbursement requests, verifying deposits, coding monthly invoices, and forwarding payment requests to Accounts Payable.

What we are looking for

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

One or more years of work experience.

Knowledge of investment types and general accounting principles.

Familiarity with statutory accounting principles and financial reporting principles.

Proficiency with personal computer, Excel, Word, and related software.

Preferred CPA or MBA qualifications.

Experience with company and department practices and procedures.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Ability to organize multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Strong teamwork and independent working skills as the situation dictates.

Supervisory skills including motivation, planning, training, delegation, and prioritization.

Problem‑solving abilities and willingness to work overtime during seasonal demand.

Research, review, and analysis of financial information.
