Overview Reporting to the Vice President, Public Safety and Security, the Manager of Public Safety and Security is responsible for the command and control of the daily operation of the 24/7 ballpark Special Police Officer (SPO) Security Program. The role manages all SPO personnel, work schedules, time and attendance reports, patrol procedures and general security operations directly associated with protecting the facility and the organization’s interests. The Nationals are a military‑friendly organization actively recruiting veterans and spouses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Deploy security resources in a manner that provides the best possible proactive and reactive measures to prevent or minimize property loss, property damage, personal injury, or situations having a negative impact on the organization.

Conduct proper investigations and inquiries into all matters, accidents, security issues, and situations adversely impacting the facility or organization’s interest, including damages, losses, safety matters, or injury whether real or perceived. Provide detailed reports to the Vice President of Public Safety & Security.

Communicate necessary guidance, instruction, policies, protocols and procedures to subordinate personnel, support the proper execution of their assigned duties and conduct follow‑up quality assurance reviews.

Ensure all shift‑related issues, observations and critical information is documented, verified, and accurately reported to the appropriate decision maker in a timely manner.

Conduct periodic inspections of all document flow, post activities, assignments, programs to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Take necessary corrective action when discrepancies are noted.

Maintain accountability for all files, logs and reports for the required period of time in a manner to quickly and accurately recall any required or requested information.

Provide quality control oversight of all security equipment, uniforms and items necessary to perform duties and responsibilities and ensure issued items are used and maintained as designed. Proactively replace items deemed unserviceable and ensure enough shelf stock is available to avoid disrupting operations.

Maintain a positive and productive work environment and ensure this intent is communicated and adhered to by all subordinates, security department stakeholders and associates at all times.

Be directly responsible for all counseling communications, documentation and reporting in a timely manner.

Complete all payroll entries, reports and documentation in a manner consistent with established standards.

Supervise security vendors and ensure that standard operating procedures, policies, protocols and processes are up to date and followed.

Provide feedback and guidance to contract security leadership on the scheduling, performance and necessary training of the contracted team.

Establish guidelines and training requirements for security vendors; ensure patrol readiness by regular inspections and drilling.

Maintain a professional liaison relationship with stadium representatives, guests, local law enforcement and emergency first‑responder personnel.

Assist as needed with Incident Command Post operations including directing the dispatch of safety and security resources. Utilize video surveillance to monitor issues and generate reports.

Assist in coordinating VIP visits.

Support the mailroom coordinator and operations via its loading dock safety and security protocols in compliance with MLB BSOP standards.

Provide a high degree of interaction and cooperation with other corporate departments, including Facilities, Legal, Human Resources, Finance and other internal and external ballpark stakeholders.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or GED program graduation (some college coursework preferred and/or military service). Successful management or prior equivalent leadership experience may be considered in lieu of the requirement. Equivalent military experience is acceptable.

10 years of experience in Security/Law Enforcement or a related field, with additional experience in supervision. If experience is lacking, sufficient additional education or successful business management accomplishments or background indicating excellent potential for development as a Security Manager is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Intermediate computer skills.

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to conduct preliminary investigations, prepare complete reports, maintain self‑control and execute all duties, responsibilities, policies and procedures in a fair and professional manner.

Pass an organizational and local authority background check.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Job requires employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue. May work at heights. Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, climb up or down stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

Compensation The projected annual salary range for this position is $75,000 – $95,000 per year. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s qualifications, skills, experience, education/training, certifications and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
