The Opportunity
Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will report to the Assistant Center Manager.
The Role
- In compliance with SOPs, performs all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, donor monitoring, and donor disconnect.
- Performs venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
- Evaluates vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; corrects issues to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety. Ensures the donation process is efficient and provides a positive experience for the donor.
- Educates new donors on therapeutic plasma products, explains screening, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other pertinent information. Answers donor questions timely, accurately and professionally.
- Maintains alertness to donor reactions, assists with reactions or notifies appropriate staff.
- Uses a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process such as machine alerts, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
- Performs calibrations and verifies equipment maintenance per SOPs. Responds to and resolves complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
- Troubleshoots equipment failures, documents incidents, removes or replaces equipment from service.
- Monitors donor flow to ensure continuous turnover; alerts the Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
- Collects arm or whole‑blood donor samples for testing.
- Accurately records donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
- Understands policies and procedures for hyper‑immune programs if applicable.
- Maintains a clean, efficient work environment, ensures sufficient supplies and forms are available; follows all HSE and OSHA policies and promotes safety.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- May cross‑train in other areas to meet business needs.
- Bilingual skills may be required at the organization’s discretion.
- Performs any other job‑related duties as assigned.
Your Skills and Experience
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Internal CSL employees must have completed CSL Plasma Phlebotomy training.
- External candidates must have a minimum of 6 months experience as a phlebotomist; one year preferred.
- Preferred: Minimum 12 months experience in a medical or health‑care environment or equivalent education and experience.
Working Conditions
- Routine forms and oral communications.
- Understanding, remembering, and applying oral and written instructions.
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling; manual dexterity required.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
- Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood‑borne pathogens.
- Wearing PPE as required.
- Overtime and extended hours to support operational needs.
- Estimated base pay: $15.85‑$20.60 per hour.
