Henry Ford Health is seeking a skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a contingent position in Neurosurgery at Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high‑performing, collaborative neurosurgery team in a top‑tier facility.
Applicants must have at least one year of APP experience. Prior experience in neurosurgery and/or ICU settings is highly preferred. New graduates will not be considered. The ideal candidate is a motivated and adaptable clinician with a solid foundation in managing complex patients in high‑acuity environments. Strong communication skills, clinical competence, and a team‑oriented approach are essential.
General Summary:
The Specialty/Invasive Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first‑line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Works in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures may be performed as indicated by credentialing and training. Possible work settings include Cardiovascular Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ICU, Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery, Urgent Care, and Urology.
Education / Experience Required:
Master's degree in nursing.
Licensure and Certification Required:
Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner.
Current State license as a Registered Nurse.
Current BLS.
Current ACLS/ATLS/PALS provider status as required by department.
Qualifications:
NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA).
NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan.
PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Licensure and Certification:
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application).
National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.
NPs do not have controlled substance licenses; only PAs receive a CSL.
Experience:
Prior APP experience is highly preferred – at least 1 year.
ICU and/or neurosurgery experience highly recommended.
Skills:
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Commitment to patient‑centered care and continuous professional development.
