Salary range for this position is $39.00 - $62.40 per hour. Placement within the salary range is dependent on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the collective bargaining agreement.

Schedule This is a 0.9 FTE position with three 12-hour shifts per week, 11:00am-11:30pm; weekend, holiday, and on-call requirements.
Experience Candidates must have at least two years of ICU, PACU, or ER nursing work experience to be considered for this position.
The Feinberg Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a high-acuity unit connected with the main Feinberg Operating Room and off-site interventional areas. The PACU provides care to complex surgical patients recovering from anesthesia and may administer pre-operative care. The unit focuses on advanced technology and critical thinking to deliver evidence-based nursing care.

Responsibilities
Advocate:
Practices in accordance with the patient-centered care model.
Develops an individualized age-specific culturally sensitive nursing plan of care based on the nursing process.
Incorporates the role of patient advocate into the plan of care.
Uses a team approach to develop and achieve daily patient-centered goals.
Acknowledges and values the contributions of the patient’s significant others as part of the plan of care.
Identifies potential conflicts and facilitates resolution using established communication channels.
Promotes health, safety, and rights of the patient; maintains a safe environment.
Participates in research-related activities including evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
Practices safe post-operative care, including assessment, potential complications, and discharge teaching.
Identifies potential pre-anesthetic risk factors.
Clinical Expert:
Advances clinical expertise through continuing education and specialty certification when eligible.
Continuously enhances skills to ensure high-quality patient care.
Educates team members, patients, and students.
Uses critical thinking to integrate knowledge and practice.
Identifies priorities, sets goals, and prescribes and implements nursing interventions safely and timely.
Develops and implements individualized education plans for patients and families.
Evaluates patient responses and adapts the plan of care accordingly.
Escalates appropriately and consults experts when needed.
Participates in team goals and delegates as appropriate.
Ensures clear handoffs and professional communication.
Adheres to ethical standards of practice and can intervene in complications if needed.
Community Volunteer:
Participates in Northwestern Memorial volunteer initiatives annually.

Demonstrates interpersonal connections with patients and families from admission to discharge.
Responds to patient concerns and communicates delays in care when applicable.

Qualifications Required:
Graduate of an NLN-accredited nursing program.
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher.
Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
Current CPR (healthcare provider) through the American Heart Association.
Current ACLS certification through the American Heart Association.
Analytic ability (conceptual and quantitative).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift/carry up to 35 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds as essential functions.
Preferred:
Experience in a specific clinical area.
Nursing specialty certification, if eligible.
